Day 258 - Close Inspection

Finally starting to finish some rolls of film.  This was a shot of Derek inspecting the Recesky roll of film.  I thought it made a great shot... to finish another roll of film.  This is how the boys printed the metallic paper.  Usually they would trim the paper down to size but I like the look as it was.  Looks like a polaroid.  This is a big moment for Derek, second time on the blog.

Technical:
Leica R4s camera
Kodak BW400CN
ISO 400

  1. I studied this image last night and found it difficult to critique because my reaction was that it lacks some of Matnt's attention to technical details like control of depth of field and lighting so I did not comment on it and as I look ay it again today, I am pleased I did not comment last night. Now i see this as a little picture within a big picture. The little picture is one frame on the film strip. It is cleverly backlight by a flare of light which emanated around the film. It tells the story. The rest of the composition provides context so while I held reservations last night, this morning the reservations are replaced with approval because my eye finally read the picture. The jury is out on the border but that opens another topic which needs to be discussed over coffee - and that topic is around the use of borders and captions for photos and whether they have an effect on the viewer's response to an image.
