Been having some fun with the Toowoomba City Roller girls. They needed some headshots done so I did a quick two light setup and rolled them through. I hope to put a few of the shots up after I have done some editing.
Technical:
Canon 7d camera
EF 50mm
ISO 100
f/1.4
1/250
Image Manipulation:
Decreased saturation then pumped up red items.
Strobist:
Softbox to front and left of subject, rim flash right rear.
I have viewed the portrait shots of the TCR several times, formulating my critique. The first thing I ask myself when first viewing an image is, 'what do I see?' and in the three TCR shots I see subjects who will be very happy to own their shot. I especially like the pumped up red tones in this one. The TCR portraits remind me of billboard photography rather than classic portraits and that is a good thing. When I look at the girls I get a big chunk of character information but I may get none of the personality of each subject and that forms the basis of my 'billboard' comment. Presentation of each portrait is, as always, good. While I envy the strobist techniques, I think the back/sidelight is a bit harsh in two of the shots", this being one. Overall I think the girls' portraits are examples of art in photography where colours, effects and composition have produced great picture stories.
